An Incident Not Too Long Ago!

by Diana Lynn Countryman Siderides and Marcy Reynolds

Through my years of experience as an Animal Communicator I have learned that regardless of the type or size of animal involved they all share common personality traits.  And as a pet owner myself I continue to realize just how much we are all blessed with such unique four legged teachers among us.  The question is though, how many of us are actually paying attention to what our pet is showing us through their behaviors.

The most recent lesson that was brought to my attention was a BIG reminder in trusting my own instincts.  Not so different than that of your pet.  As humans we require our space; that invisible area around us that we have set up as a protection barrier.  And we generally only allow those individuals that we know or are comfortable enough with to encroach that barrier.  Why would we assume that our pets are any different?  Strangers are strangers until enough time has been spent for both parties to feel comfortable enough for the invisible barrier to be broached.

Many pet owners will seek my services for the purpose of assisting their pet through a difficult situation or to have a greater understanding of what is behind the pets’ current behavior.  Depending on the circumstances especially in cases compounded by illness or a history of abuse, the sensitivity of your pet's instincts will be greatly heightened.  And if an animal is not accustom to being around strangers their stress level goes up tremendously.  It then becomes a question of what is in the best interest of the animal.  How best to approach them in order to assist them.

Great care is required for all parties involved.  This includes the animal, the owner as well as the individual administering the requested service.   It has always been customary for me to communicate immediately with the animal involved once a travel appointment has been made for either an animal communication and/or Reiki session. This introductory communication is for the sole purpose of putting the animal at ease prior to my arrival in person.  At this point it becomes a question as to whether or not I am listening to what has been shared.  It is one thing to deal with a small dog or cat and quite another thing to deal with someone's horse or prized bull.  I love animals and my heart goes out to them and their owner's in stressful times.  I too must take into account what is best at this moment for the animal.  It is easy for me to get lost in my wanting to help and knowing I can help both the animal and the owner.  However; is this the right time?  Is there enough time?  Will the animal allow me safely into its physical space?  How much stress will my physical presence add to the moment?  Would this be best handled distantly?

When I chose not to listen to the introductory communication and chose not to trust my own instincts regarding the circumstances.  Then the possibility of a less than desirable visit exists.  I too must take into account what is in the best interest and well being for the animal, the owner and myself.  The most precious times for me as an animal communicator is those moments when the animal has communicated they are receptive and ready to allow me into their space.
