Hedra ArticlesApril 2009 A Day in a Life of Memories On Valentine’s Day, there was 3 new inches of beautiful powder, all my pines were laden with this new damp snow and it was just awesome this morning. I watched a young buck in the distance going north until he felt the Reiki I offered him; then he played; going south and then spinning around and going back north for 20 minutes. I decided to drive down to the Montour Wildlife Refuge, where I have walked every day for 5 winters with my constant companion, Nakota. Nakota is now 12 and can no longer make these trips so I have stayed home with him, biding my time. This morning however, I drove south and I felt free again as I drove through the Refuge. I watched a pair of Red-tailed hawks breed twice at the top of a tree, then as I turned West, I parked my Tundra where I have always parked, got out and started walking on the new snow. Other than coyote and deer tracks, my tracks were the first 2-legged tracks this morning. The geese were honking and flying about; the female red-tailed that has been here since I moved up here, was in her tree and didn’t like the intrusion of my walking so she flew off. (This was a different red-tailed from the one that I observed being bred when I first drove over). A Kingfisher was not at all happy with my walking down the dirt road either. Then several Eagles flew over and I gave them Reiki and they circled me and left (that is their way of saying “Thank You” for the energies). I was looking in the water for any signs of life, when I spotted the wake of a Beaver. It swam alongside me as I walked the road for about 600 feet, and as I continued to walk to the West, I saw that this beaver made a brand new dam located further NW than the previous beaver’s attempts to keep the water dammed and I believe this beaver will be successful in its endeavors. I walked to my favorite grove of ancient Cottonwoods; gave thanks to the directions and Mother Earth and Father Sky; then I decided to keep going, although my legs were getting tired. I walked another 1,000 feet all uphill to stop where I could overlook the entire Montour Wildlife Refuge and the river. I was disappointed to see that there was no water in the Flats of the Refuge; in a good year the there would be a lot of water and thousands of Canadian and Snow geese as well as Blue Herons and lesser Cranes; today – nothing! I was getting cold as it was 22 degrees, the wind had picked up and it was time to head back to the truck. Walking back the beaver swam with me for a short distance again; the beaver asked if I would be back and I said, “I hope to.” Shook off my boots as I got in the Tundra and I realized that I love walking out in the wild places, to share the Traditional Reiki, to be able to communicate with the wildlife if they are wanting to and to just jump start my day. My Valentine’s Day could not have been any better! Diana Lynn Countryman Siderides Of the Warm Fuzzy Center |
