Hedra ArticlesJune 2008 A REIKI TESTIMONY About nine months ago, my husband and I went to Chicago to join some other folks in learning about Reiki. Although I have always been interested in healing (I’m a nurse with 24 years of school and public health nursing history), I was actually skeptical, not so much that Reiki didn’t work or wasn’t legitimate, as that it wouldn’t work FOR ME! I have never been one to have unusual or “woo-woo” experiences, am very practical and no nonsense, but also have long had an interest in spirituality and things “out there”. I’m afraid I gave Diana, our teacher, a hard time by questioning her somewhat harshly (which I didn’t really realize at the time). But I went through the training and the “attunements” and began half-heartedly to do some Reiki as we had been instructed, but not very diligently, and not very often. I was more “playing” with it, as I still didn’t really know what I wanted to do with it. Then came the time for the second class, for which we were going to Idaho, and our group wanted to do this all together. I didn’t want to miss out on the fun and “lose face” with my friends, and still had a subliminal desire to do more in healing than I had learned via allopathic medicine. But a trip to Idaho isn’t cheap, (from Indiana), and I wanted to be sure that I really wanted to learn. Also, I had to QUALIFY for the course, and go through a phone interview with Diana. This made me get more serious and really look at whether I wanted to do this. She told me I needed to get more serious about actually using the Reiki I had learned, and asked me why I should be considered for the class. I answered as honestly as I knew how, saying that I did have a deep desire to learn and help others through this method. (Then I also stepped up the Reiki practice after that!) So we took the Reiki II class this January, and I really became more serious about Reiki as a way of life, and understanding life as greater energy which ties all of us together. We have the ability to tap into this energy in the ways that Diana had been trained and then taught us. It still blows me away that it is really so simple. I do Reiki pretty regularly now, and expect to feel the energy moving beneath my hands and the connection with the person I am “working” on, even at a distance. I have helped two people to cross over the barrier between this life and the next. I have given Reiki to a friend with severe clinical depression, and she said she was “in heaven”. I have done Reiki on my husband when he was in his office seeing patients toward the end of a very busy day, and he experienced a lifting of tiredness and ability to go on. I also was blessed to Reiki another healer who said she had not let anyone lay hands on her for the last seven years, because of a traumatic history of abuse. I have had other experiences as well. For myself, I experience a calming and lifting and readiness to get on with whatever I need to do. In short, Reiki has been a true blessing in my life and I will use it for the rest of my life. I thank Diana for her accepting me into the class, and for the things she has taught us. I thank Marcy, her assistant, as well. Both have become true friends. If you are curious about or thinking of taking Reiki I, I would encourage you to call Diana and get a Reiki treatment from her first, or simply sign up for her next class.
