First Part: June 2007 Why Traditional Reiki by
Marcy and Rodney, Eagle
We live in a fast paced world, and have grown accustomed to knowing
and receiving everything right now. Instant gratification is the
norm these days as reflected by: "Just get to the point." Ok, but
first ask yourself what is so valuable about traditional anything?
When you attended an art class or learned some new sport for
instance, wasn't a teacher or coach there for your benefit: Didn't
you expect them to have enough experience and knowledge to break
down the mystery of what you wanted to learn in order to achieve
your goal? Didn't you expect the teacher to spend enough time with
you so you could achieve your desired outcome, and didn't you feel
shortchanged when they didn't? Well, what happened to instant
gratification? Could that be the opposite to Mastery?
There is beauty and art in leaning the traditional Usui Reiki way.
This time-honored energy healing technique is sacred, simple and has
been passed down from one Master teacher to another. Traditional
Reiki through the wisdom of the Masters has been assembled into
three categories for the purpose of building strength from one upon
the other through time and experience. As an introduction to Reiki I
the student is introduced to the history of these three well-known
Reiki Masters that brought the resurgence of Reiki to modern times.
Once introduced to the history the students are attuned by their
Master teacher. This is the students’ direct connection to an
unlimited source of energy, much like a battery. The student is
merely a conduit for the energy to naturally flow through the body
and out through the hands. The teacher explains the principals
behind the mystery; what this energy is, how it works, how and when
to apply the healing Reiki technique and what you can expect as a
desired outcome.
Ah, the desired outcome! Because time seems to move quicker these
days, most students now put less effort into the process and just
seek a quick result. In our fast paced society, we seem to have
forgotten that our results are contingent upon becoming so familiar
with the new teachings that they become integrated with us. And
through this integration or mastery, all of a sudden the student has
an awareness shift. The unknown is now the known. With Mastery comes
a sense of accomplishment, confidence, self awareness that was
developed and expanded simple by taking a class.
How does this apply to traditional Reiki? You could simply read a
couple of good books on Reiki and be done, right? Yes, you would
have knowledge that you didn't before. But what doesn't make sense
here is that, in spite of what you have been told, knowledge means
nothing until you can do something productive with it! Society tells
us "knowledge is power," but it is not. Knowledge is just
information sitting there doing nothing. Ah Ha, said the wise man.
One must have discipline and practice these new teachings in order
to strengthen the connection the student has made with Reiki.
What separates the apprentice from the craftsman? The apprentice has
knowledge while the craftsman has wisdom. The craftsman through
his/her teaching and experience has mastered the techniques, tools
and applications transforming knowledge to wisdom. It is not always
about what you have learned, but how you learned. Learn form the
best, from a traditional Reiki teacher who has mastered their
profession. Good students seek good schools that employ the best
teachers.
Accomplished artists and successful athletes took time to master
their skills. They continue learning with great teachers in order to
master their profession. When you think you know all, you will stop
listening which in turn stops growth. If you are not growing, you
are dying. This is wisdom, this is life.
As stated before, there is beauty and art in leaning the traditional
Usui Reiki Way. Each of the traditional levels do require a number
of months of practice for preparation to advance to the next level.
This time frame is contingent upon the students practice. If you are
seeking immediate gratification from a class then you will only gain
limited knowledge. If, however you are seeking a class that will
transform you, then seek a traditional teacher: one who will still
be teaching you long after class is over.
